A Life Interaction
Device
For the Class of 2006,
the project was chosen to help improve the quality of life for Abigail,
a 6 year old girl with Cerebral Palsy. With the support of her parents,
her therapists, and the Electrical Engineering Faculty, it was decided
to develop custom software based around Abigail’s needs, with particular
emphasis on interaction with the world around her.
Because of Abigail’s
condition, she has only limited control of her head and arms. Any device
that she wants to control directly must be taken from those limited
inputs. The senior class has programmed specialized software that allows
her communicate simple phrases through the laptop speakers as well play
movies, music, and games through sensors placed near her head and arms. |
